Choi lives in Brooklyn, New York, and — depending on the day and time — is about three hours away (by subway and train) from the Appalachian Trail.
Since moving to Washington, D.C., after college, Donahoe has done a considerable amount of day hiking in nearby areas, including the A.T. at Harper’s Ferry and back by his family roots at the Delaware Water Gap. He considers himself blessed that his location gives him both an urban experience and the ability to be biking, walking, or hiking in Rock Creek Park—the gem of Washington — in less than ten minutes. He’s also loved hiking in the Adirondacks, Northern California, and in England’s Lake District. His dream U.S. hiking trips are Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks.
Donahoe is a freelance writer with a portfolio of nonprofit, mission-driven organizations. He’s also a volunteer interviewer for an ongoing oral history archive focused on the LGBTQ experience in Washington.
His self-described “geek outs” are detective shows and plant- and night sky-identifier apps.
His images have been used by various entities, such as Honda, REI Co-op, Tennessee Department of Tourist Development, Explore Asheville Convention and Visitors Bureau, Buncombe County NC Tourism and Development Authority, Jackson County NC Tourism and Development Authority, Golden Isles GA Convention and Visitors Bureau, Blue Ridge Parkway, United States Department of the Interior, Mountains To Sea Trail, Southern Environmental Law Center, Great Outdoor Provision Company, and Roanoke Valley VA Convention and Visitors Bureau.
His work has also been published in various print media, including Forbes, Our State, Blue Ridge Country, Georgia Mountain Laurel, Hallowed Ground, Gestalten, Appalachian Voices, and Golden Isles Magazine.
Stephens is a winner in both the Landscape category and the People’s Choice Award in the 14th Annual Appalachian Mountain Photography Competition. He has also written and released Seasons, a highly acclaimed hardcover, illustrated travel book featuring his best images.
